Mahmoud completed his doctoral training in the laboratory of Michael Hayden at the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics in Vancouver, Canada. For his PhD studies, he evaluated the potential of a number of compounds targeting excitotoxicity as therapeutic agents in a rodent model of Huntington disease. Prior to joining the effort to find a cure for Huntington disease, Mahmoud completed a Masters in Immunology, studying the influence of environmental determinants on the establishment of pulmonary allergies and asthma.
