Piere studied Biology at Cayetano Heredia University in Lima (Peru), then obtained a PhD in Biophysics at UC Berkeley in the Bustamante Lab, specializing in molecular motors and single-molecule methods. Currently, he is a senior postdoc in Stanford in the Frydman Lab. By bridging biophysical measurements at the single-molecule level with their effect in neurons and brains, his research aims to understand how disease-causing mutations affect the structure of specific disease-linked proteins and render them toxic, which leads to the development of neurodegenerative diseases, like Huntington’s.
